The Gaslight Squares
Branding and identity design for St Louis based jazz band, The Gaslight Squares
Description
This project was a labor-intensive undertaking that resulted in a modern design that pays homage to the city of St Louis and its rich musical history. The objective was to create a visually appealing aesthetic that evokes memories of the bygone era of Ragtime, early jazz, and blues. It is with great pride that I present the final product. Fun fact: I played clarinet and alto saxophone with The Gaslight Squares for several years during my tenure in St Louis, which provided invaluable insight and inspiration for this project.

Here’s the final, hero logo for the project.
I really wanted one of these but we never got around to making them, this is just a proof of concept.
Some early (and clunky) design sketches based on some ideas and colors I had knockin’ around upstairs.
Here I used some automated processes in Photoshop to generate some random color variations, just for my own curiosity.
Some variations for the back of the business card.
